The figures below indicate the number of domestic abuse reports made to the police in the local area:
- 2006/07 - 854 incidents
- 2007/08 - 1238 incidents
- 2008/09 - 1410 incidents
- These incidents include situations where there were verbal arguments as well as assaults, harassment and criminal damage.
National
- Domestic abuse acounts for 15% of all violent crime (Home Office)
- 1:4 women and 1:6 men will suffer domestic violence in their lifetime with women at greater risk of repeat victimisation and serious injury (Home Office)
- Domestic abuse claims the lives of 2 women every week at the hands of a current or former male partner (Home Office)
- Domestic abuse is the largest cause of morbidity worldwide in women aged 19-44, greater than war, cancer or motor vehicle accidents.

- An online survey in December 2008 by Bliss magazine (in conjunction with Women's Aid) found that 1:5 girls under 16 years old have been physically hurt by someone they were dating and for 16 year old girls this goes up to 1:4
- Every minute, Police in the UK receive a domestic assistance call, yet only 35% of domestic violence incidents are reported to the police (Home Office)
- In 9 out of 10 cases, children are in the same or next room, where the violence is going on.
- Almost 2000 children per year contract ChildLine due to domestic violence problems.
