Frequently Asked Questions

What are my Housing options?

Information from Maidenhead District Housing Association:

'If a tenant approaches us suffering domestic violence and we have Police reports and supporting evidence, we can look at the possibility of an internal transfer if there is anything suitable depending on the area required.  We can also nominate them to an Association outside the Royal Borough through the HOMES MOBILITY scheme.  Victims of domestic violence are often accepted through this route providing they have relevant supporting evidence'.

For more information call MDHA 01628 543100.

Information from RBWM Housing Department:

'Each case is unique and the response depends on individual circumstances.  Housing options where someone has to leave the house due to domestic violence are:

  • Women's refuge/emergency temporary accommodation,
  • Alternative private rental,
  • Management transfer/mutual exchange where the land lord is a Housing Association/Local Authority,
  • Legal advice to assist in obtaining an injunction/occupation order.

Points are allocated to those in housing need who qualify for the local housing register in accordance with RBWM Allocations Policy.

All applicants are offered housing advice and their housing options are discussed.  Applications are assessed in accordance with the Homelessness Act 2002.
